Lauren Weisberger's second novel following 'The devil wears Prada'. This book was published in the year 2005. The protagonist is a woman (not a surprise) named Bette.
The story starts with Bette's best friend getting engaged and Bette feeling lonely and not happy about that fact. She ends up quitting her job at an investment bank at an impulse and ending up joining an event management (read it as lavish parties organizing) company whose owner was a junior to her uncle.
What stated as a bold experiment resulted in so many twists and turns in her life. She became one of the most wanted figure for gossip column writers (actually it was just one writer) and her professional life and personal life started to get completed entwined with everyone either feeling jealous or push her to go for things which she rather would not if she was a simple girl working in investment bank.
And one day the bubble bursts and she leaves it all and gets some peace but the price she pays for it is huge (at-least initially). A cute love story is also found in the entire story which is like a silver lining in Bette's life and that helps in concluding the complete novel.
Everyone worth knowing - Not everyone's pick - Girly, fashionable as usual
Score: 3.2/5
