Our lives are shaped as profoundly by personality as by gender or race. And the single most important aspect of personality ... is where we fall on the introvert-extrovert spectrum. Our place on this continuum influences our choice of friends and mates, how we make conversation, resolve differences, and show love. It affects the careers we choose and whether or not we succeed at them.
Have you ever said no to a party for reading a good book?, love to spend time with nature than a big group of people who cannot stop chatting?, felt out of the place? - Have you ever felt that you are an introvert and also felt bad about it. But in reality you don't have to. Introvert is just like an extrovert - a person who has his/her own way of living and though process. A shy person can be an extrovert whereas a bold person can be an introvert. An introvert in today's world try to adapt themselves to fit the extrovert' world but that basic character of his/her would always stay within.
This non-fiction by Susan Cain explains about the positives and negatives of an introvert and an extrovert and how the world treats both. She argues how the modern western culture gives more importance to the extroverts but actually it also needs these introverts who are the backbones/ the ones who do the job and research. Introverts are just more sensitive people who notice the smallest changes around.
Many experiments, research studies and observations are pointed out to explain the position introverts are given in the minds of the people and the real character sets of an introvert vs an extrovert.
This book is a good read and a good eye -opener which clears the air.
P.S. If you don't know whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, there is a questionnaire which would make you understand who you really are.
Score: 3.8/5
