Kolathur

Kolathur – a place unbelievable to be part of Chennai but yes it is. Around 1 and half hours travel in M51V from T-nagar takes you there. Don’t feel surprised if you are asked to get down in middle of a very small street which is being called as the bus stop. There are more exciting things waiting when you enter the village.

Yes it is a village, a typical village which can never be part of Chennai. 2 stationary/ daily needs shop, 2 tea stalls, 1 biscuit shop, 1 STD/PCO booth with no telephone inside, 1 ration shop, 1 very small temple, 1 post office and few huts make the complete village.

Most of the smaller shops are owned by ladies who are not educated. The average revenue per day is 50-100 bucks and much lesser in the biscuit shop. The old lady who runs the biscuit shop is 65+ years old and she enquired me if there is any loan/help/aid available for old people because she could do nothing but to sit in that biscuit shop all day where the transaction is almost close to zero. The stationary/ daily needs shop are the only exceptions to this.

Can you believe the post office is just one wooden table in front of a hut? The post office has just 2 people-one manager and one post man. The manager works between 10-2.30 and the post man between 1.30 till EOD. The posts are taken to vandalur in cycle by the post man. The mail which comes to that place travels the biggest route possible which I never could understand even after he explained me twice.

A place in Chennai which is out of the picture in every aspect with an exciting/ surprising experience, A village worth visiting for every traveler – Kolathur.
